While writing this post a message popped onto my screen saying that a dear neighbor just passed away peacefully at his home this morning. I looked at my images again and began to think of permanence and what gets left behind when we pass. Portugal has a long history as we can see in these images. Castles, stone walls, boot forms that haven’t changed in centuries, traditional riding customs and clothing and always the sea. Nature.
To know that the people who worked on many of these structures never saw them to completion speaks of devotion to their craft. Their religion. To address the details of the work even when you’ll never see the big picture speaks to a higher calling.
Everyday we’re leaving bits of ourselves behind.
XOXO,
Francesca
